STUDIO CLOSING

The Studio is Closing, but Fuzed Continues

I just want to start this by saying the studio is closing, but this is not the end of Fuzed. Details about the future are below, but first I want to address how I have been able to make it this far in such unprecedented circumstances. Of course to all of our inspiring customers and fellow artists, thank you! I will miss having everyone in the studio creating and celebrating with us, and without your support none of this would have been possible.

We’re a small team here and I absolutely couldn’t have made it this far without Sheri, Lindsey and Bridget by my side. When I tell you I love these three, I mean I LOVE THESE THREE. Each of them has gotten me through the toughest parts of owning a business (both during and before the pandemic). Days in the studio with Sheri were days spent infected by her uplifting spirit. She has always been ready to step up and support wherever needed. Lindsey is full of creativity and always ready to offer a fresh perspective and insight. Without these two, I would have surely become a bitter mess this year.

Bridget gets her own section because, LET ME TELL YOU, she is an omniscient, mind reading, miracle worker. Bridget has been with the studio since day one (AKA longer than me). She trained me when I first started working at the studio, and since then we’ve been living on the same wavelength. I haven’t given her a fully fleshed out idea in years; I tell her what I’m thinking about and she produces a finished product. It’s incredible. Bridget is the backbone of this studio and has truly been the secret sauce to keeping things afloat.

Without the lovely ladies of the Fuzed team, there is no way I would have made it this far.

Now, for the Future of Fuzed

The last day to create in our San Rafael studio space will be May 16, 2021. The plan is to be moved out of the current studio space by the end of May. In those last two weeks, there will be a lot of packing, planning, and fusing, but we won’t be able to have customers in to create new projects. I am opening up the appointment availability for anyone looking to get one (or two, or three) more visits in.

You’ll Still be able to Make Fused Glass!

Maybe you saw my (very quick) Facebook live video, but if you didn’t, I mention that my favorite part has always been creating with people and introducing glass art to people. I’m not willing to give that part up just because I won’t have a public studio space.

So, below is a quick list of things I will be offering. Some of these are current offerings, some are soon-to-be-launched. If you can click the item in the list, it’s currently being offered. Let me know what you’re most excited about in the comments, please! That way you get what you want faster and I know what to focus energy on.

*Still have a gift card? You can use them for the kits and to buy from the shop! Just send me an email (maddy@fuzedglass.com) and we’ll get it sorted. I’ll have to create a special discount code for you.

Thank you to everyone who has been a supporter of the studio, especially throughout this year! I am sad to say goodbye to this space but so excited for what the future holds. I see this as an opportunity to focus on developing my own art and exploring glass even further. I also see this as an opportunity to provide intimate, bespoke experiences with fused glass where everyone can dive deeper into the creative process. Sounds scary, but it’s really fun (even if you think “you’re not creative”), promise!

Closing FAQs and other things:

  1. “But you’ve made it this far! Don’t give up now!”

    • I know. And it sucks to have to call it. It has been a long year and this was not an easy decision. But I have tried my hardest, and this slow re-opening didn’t come soon enough for my situation.

  2. Did you get money from the government?

    • Yes, I did. I got an EIDL loan. I still have to close, unfortunately.

  3. I wish I would have known you were offering things during the shut-down!

    • Bummer, me too! Make sure you’re following our Instagram (@fuzed.glass), like the Facebook page, and/or sign up for the Fuzer Flyer so you don’t miss the new stuff I’ll be offering!

  4. But your social media made it look like you were doing so well!

    • Thank you! Bridget and I put a lot of effort into each post. We took the opportunity to spread a little color and joy in an otherwise despondent time. Alas, looks can be deceiving and we will still have to close.
